Four levels

A level for wherever you start

  4. 04

Yellow dot, adults 18 and over
    Skills
    • Smoothing out your stroke

    • Breathing patterns on longer swims

From our students

What adult students say

“I had never been in water past my waist. The first class was a rail, a noodle and an instructor who asked what would help. That was all it took to come back the next week.”

Della M.Adult student

“The women's session has a closed door and a deck to ourselves. I wear my swim top and head covering and nobody looks twice. I look forward to Mondays.”

Habiba N.Adult student, women's session

“I came to the Tuesday evening class on my own and expected to feel foolish at my age. Nobody rushed me, and I stayed at the wall for as long as I liked.”

Questions

What adults ask before the first class

I have never been in a pool. Can I still come?

Yes. The first level starts at the rail in waist-deep water, and you decide how much of the water you want at each class. You can step out, rest at the wall or stop at any time.

What is a level?

A level is a short list of what you practice, such as floating with support or breathing out with your face in the water. Your instructor tells you when you are ready for the next one, and you can stay where you are for as long as you like.

How long is a class?

A class lasts forty-five minutes, and a session runs eight weeks. Most members come once or twice a week.

What should I wear and bring?

A swimsuit, a long-sleeved swim top, swim leggings or a swim head covering are all welcome. Bring a towel, a swim cap if you like and goggles if you have them. We provide boards, noodles and belts.

Are there women's sessions?

Yes. Women's sessions are taught by women instructors on a private deck that is closed to everyone else during class. Mixed sessions are open to everyone.

Who is in the water with me?

An instructor is in the water or on the step beside every swimmer. The number of swimmers each instructor has in every level is on our safety page.
